September is Our Month of Giving

Proceeds go to The Boys & Girls Club of the Big Pines

September is Insight Eyecare’s Month of Giving, an annual event benefiting a local or locally founded charitable organization. This year, we’re supporting the local chapter of The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which provides a safe place for kids and teens when school is not in session. Throughout September, $10 of your eyeglasses purchase gets passed along to this charity.

Here’s a personal note from Dr. Pinkerton about this year’s Month of Giving recipient.

“Whatever it takes to build great futures” is one of the mottoes of The Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Because it takes committed mentors, a safe environment, and quality programs to level the playing field for all kids, Boys & Girls Clubs don’t just do one thing. They do whatever it takes to build great futures for America’s young people.

Their mission aligns with ours at Insight Eyecare. Great futures consists of lots of building blocks. One is education, and learning depends on good vision. If a child can’t see well, he or she cannot read a textbook, a standardized test, or the teacher’s lessons. The child may fall behind in school, suffer a loss of confidence, and fail to reach his or her full potential.

Generally, a child’s vision problems, once identified, are easily corrected. That’s one of the reasons I chose optometry as my profession—I can make a big difference in kids’ lives and futures just by fitting them with corrective lenses. In other words, just doing this one thing sets a solid foundation upon which great futures can be built.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America impress me because they do so much more than one thing. Boys & Girls Clubs serve school-age youth through a variety of programs including homework assistance, career exploration, job assistance, recreational pursuits, and leadership development. A lot of the necessary building blocks for a bright future are supplied by Boys & Girls Clubs.

In September, you can provide a building block as well, without any heavy lifting. Just by getting glasses, you also give kids tools for success. Ten dollars of your purchase goes to the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Pines, our 2019 Month of Giving recipient.
