Welcome to the Insight Eyecare blog. My intent for this blog is to educate patients and the general public about topics regarding their optometric and overall health.
I am a second-generation optometrist. My father was a career Navy officer, so the sound of waves slapping the beach is part of the soundtrack of my childhood. I graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in zoology, intending to become a veterinarian. After a cross-country road trip to discover my true calling, I decided to follow in my father’s footsteps and become an optometrist. Today, this gives me the opportunity to work with people and to improve quality of life through better vision. I earned my Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston in 1993. Afterward, I enlisted in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of captain before entering into private practice in 1996.
Insight Eyecare (formerly Craig Eye Associates of Kilgore and White Oak) provides East Texas with comprehensive optometric care, including the following specialties:

- Orthokeratology
- Specialty contact lenses (refractive, bifocal, keracotonus)
- Occupational eye care (computer vision syndrome, industrial safety)
When not caring for patients, I enjoy spending time with my four children, tracking wildlife in the woods, fishing and woodworking. In 2010, writer Dawn Klingensmith and I established Winsome Vineyard behind our home in Longview, Texas.
